I found this photo while digging around on my friend Isara's facebook page. She is a collector of these cute little dolls. She is also a cute little doll herself.

Mia Wasikowska

Gwyneth Paltrow
She at least really reminds me of a young Gwyneth. There's also the whole Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland thing happening.

drummer boys

I'm really feeling this band, The Drums, lately. Take a listen and get ready to feel like dancing around.

Marcel Dzama

Marcel Dzama is a Canadian born artist now living in New York. The use of repetitive figures and the fantasy of his art reflects the work of Henry Darger, another one of my favorite artists. Dzama uses root beer and other unconventional mediums throughout his work. He has created a wide range or work all worth discovering.

photo of the week

I have decided to add a new element to my blog. I'm going to dig around in my friend's facebook photos to find a favorite photo each week. This one was taken by Todd A. Irwin while on a trip to China. I already have next week's photo picked out, and it's a good one!

These images are essentially the same thing, calcium carbonate. Evaporites are minerals such as halite, calcite and dolomite that are found in shallow seas. They can grow and evaporate within marine environments. After they dissolve into the sea, they form into the hard shells of aquatic animals. When those animals die the calcium carbonate falls to the bottom of the sea. This sediment will, with time, form into coral. As the tides lower the coral reefs are exposed to air, and the evaporite minerals are able to form again. In a way this series of events could be interpreted as one example of reincarnation. The definition of reincarnation is the rebirth of a soul into a new body. Who knows exactly what a soul is? I might argue that a soul, simply put, is a form of energy and that so is calcium carbonate.

Kate 1992

These were the first images of Kate Moss that I ever saw. I remember them well. I was obsessed with this magazine (Seventeen) in middle school. She was the first model that really got my attention, and I have loved her photos ever since. She blew up immediately after that doing Calvin Klein adds with Marky Mark (Wahlberg). I remember really wanting that Sam & Libby coat back in the day. I never did get one though. I did have an amazing blue plaid Esprit winter coat back then that I loved. I also love that some of the big cozy granny styles from this editorial are ones that I am wearing twenty years later.
