I don't want to give anyone the wrong idea. I am absolutely thrilled to be pregnant and for my husband and I to become parents. I am, however, still thinking about the trips we had planned and now have to give up or postpone. My husband got a grant to organize and update the music archives for the University in Ghana. He is just going to postpone his trip to Ghana until after the baby is born. I'm hoping that either my mother or my mother-in-law will come help me out for a bit with the baby while he is away. I was planning on going to Belize this spring to study the various ecosystems in the coral reefs and rain forests. I just couldn't imagine camping in the rain forest and flying in tiny airplanes while 7 months pregnant, so I recently decided to give up my spot. The study in Belize is happening with or without me. It would have been such an amazing experience, but I wouldn't trade it for this little baby.

I recently watched the movie Like Crazy and I loved it. I was once in a long distance relationship with a young man that I met while studying and living abroad. He was my first love, and it went on for a while, so I could relate to this movie in a lot of ways. I have never seen or heard of this actress before, and I was just amazed by her beauty throughout the whole film. Plus I just love those British girls; Kate, Keira, Alexa, Sophie and now Felicity. I'm looking forward to watching some more movies with her. I think I will watch Albatross next, since she's in it and it keeps popping up as a suggestion on my Netflix. I also want to see Chalet Girl, which she costars with Ed Westwick......mmmm Ed Westwick. I would also kill for that dress in the bottom photo, it's amazing.

I am entering my second trimester, and I have just started thinking about what things we really want and need for the baby. I would prefer to wrap my baby up like a giant burrito rather than use one of those baby backpack things that leave their legs dangling. I have heard that those aren't good for a baby's reproductive organs, because it focuses all of the weight and pressure in that exact area at a time when overall development is so important. So I need to make a trip to the fabric store to buy a very long piece of sturdy cotton jersey knit. If anyone knows the exact length of fabric needed for this please let me know.

It's that time of year to reflect on what you are most thankful for. Thankfully I'm thankful for a lot these days. Here is my list in no particular order; waking up next to such an amazing human being everyday, my loved ones (old & new, near & far), knowing when to be persistent and when to move on, the little O'Connor that continues to grow, any leisure time I have to relax and spend with loved ones, an abundance of nutritious and tasty food, continuing to learn, a nice place to live, healthy loved ones and my own health.

Tomorrow is actually my husband's birthday, but we are celebrating it tonight. Unfortunately I have to work all day on his birthday, and when I finally get home he will be at his night class taking a final. What a way to spend a birthday. So we're going out for a nice dinner tonight at a new place that we've never tried. I'm going to leave him a few more little gifts for tomorrow. I already gave him his presents a little early this year; some fancy new boots and a sweater. I really love this guy, he is my heart. I can hardly believe this is already the fifth birthday of his that we've spent together.

Here is David Sedaris' dream book shelf, in other words some of his favorite books. Since he is one of my favorite writers and I have not read a single one of these books this is now my personal reading list. I'm going to make sure to read at least one of these during my winter break. It's coming up in less than a month!!!! Time to relax a bit is always welcome by me.

One of my favorite little spots in Chicago, Heritage Bicycles General Store, just did a fall shoot to celebrate their beautiful bikes, loved ones and style. This place is such a special little Chicago gem. Where else can you have amazing coffee, eat delicious snacks, have a classic bicycle made for you by hand, watch movies, and meet interesting people who love what they're doing? Tell me.
